January 11, 2024: The Primary Science Fair, which has been integral to the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition (BTYSTE) for over 20 years, was officially opened by Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth of Ireland, Roderic O’Gorman TD, for 2024 today. The fair encourages 3rd to 6th class primary school students to develop their interest in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) in a non-competitive environment. It also inspires them to become future participants in BTYSTE, one of the world’s leading and longest-running school science exhibitions.
In 2024, 1,300 primary school students representing 55 schools across Ireland will showcase their projects at the RDS Dublin today, January 11 and tomorrow, January 12. The topics explored in the 75 projects focus on a diverse range of scientific categories, such as living things, environmental awareness and care, energy forces and the make-up of materials. The projects are screened by former winners of the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition who volunteer their time to play a role to support school students.
Commenting at the opening of the 2024 Primary Science Fair, Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth of Ireland, Roderic O’Gorman TD said: “I’m delighted to open the Primary Science Fair. Over many years, the Exhibition has been a hugely impressive and valuable opportunity for children to showcase their creativity and expertise, across a wide range of STEM topics. I have no doubt that the Fair helps nurture a love of science for the many children involved, and I’d like to wish all those who are taking part the very best of luck.”

On day two of the exhibition today, doors are open to the public and there are a limited number of tickets available to purchase for this afternoon, Friday and Saturday online at https://ticketing.btyoungscientist.com/ or at the venue. For all afternoon sessions, tickets are available for €2 from 2pm at the door.
There is a fantastic schedule of special acts on including Mark Langtry (‘Mark the Science Guy’) with his brand-new show, ‘Limitless’, a special 3D theatre show exploring what the next 60 years have in store for space, as well as one of Europe’s leading clown performers, Juanita with her show, ‘Juanita’s Big Problem’. In addition to the brilliant projects from students, the RDS is also home this week to 57 amazing stands from partners including the Department of Education, Analog Devices, Amgen, Stripe, and RTE.
Visitors can plan their visit to the RDS in advance by downloading the free BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition app, available on Android and Apple devices. Full of helpful information, the app includes an exhibition map, a search tool for student projects and exhibitors, a schedule of events, as well as links to the BTYSTE social networks for live updates throughout the event.
